Checking In

So its frustrating that I have only lost 1 pound in the last month. And the shameful part is I am more mobile then I have been in the last 4 months. 23 pounds is nothing to shake a finger at but still I know I can do better. Mondays I normally have myself convinced I deserve that granda mocha and extra large donut. But today as I stood in line to order drooling over that cranberry scone I silently reminded myself that this is Gods temple and I am only as good as I treat muself. So I ordered a tall non-fat anda yogurt. I have 77pnds to go gosh that seems like a lot lol.

shakeology review

So today I tried the vanilla flavored shakeology and I will say this. It is light years tastier than the Cyto brand from Costco. It did have a slight chalk after taste, but compared to the Cyto after taste it really doesn't compare. I made a banana berry shake and it was really delightful. I have to say I had my shake around 8:00am and it held me over until around 11am, which is right in alignment with my next meal. (remember every three hours)

Oh and did I mention there is no foam, it came out smooth and silky like a real shake. I was shocked, and so excited. I wouldn't wait to order. I was also excited to check out the nutritional info, however after looking on their site shakeology I couldn't find much. Just key phrases like "More than 70 super-nutritious ingredients" but no mention of what those really are. You have to go to the FAQ's to get the nutritional facts, and really dig.

So here is where I was most let down.

Their shakes cost a GRIP!!! $129 for 30 servings. So what is that like $4 per serving. If you are like me drinking anywhere from 1-2 shakes per day I would be spending $258+ per month. Worth it? What are your thoughts? I will say my curiosity is peaked...what does the chocolate taste like...hmmm Oh and of course they don't do samples.

Why Diet's Don't Work

Ok friends, so I have given up on dieting. I made this decision some time ago. For me, it just wasn't working. I was always calorie counting, or weighing my food and in turn I would start eating those devil donuts again. It always ended the same. I am realizing now I just need to have a plan, understand what I am consuming (good vs. bad foods), be preplanned and have my fans. Now by no means am I planning on continuing the evil cycle I am on. I have started to find a balance that is working for me. When I follow it, I see results, when I don't I see no results. The last month I have not been doing to well, but I am in a reboot phase. I think I needed to stop looking at everything as a diet, or diet food, it is just a lifestyle and a way at looking at food in a different light.

Take a look at this interesting article about why diet's fail.

Tuesday Transformation Weight Loss Success Story

Check out these awesome before and after pics

Jason 40
Kingsburg, CA

Meet 40yr old Jason husband and daddy of two. He found a routine that worked for him and shed 35 lbs. Here is his story:

A seasonal worker, track coach, and full time daddy Jason decided it was time to make a serious change. Growing up athletic and involved in several different sports, Jason finally landed as a Division I collegiate Javelin thrower for Fresno State. He would eventually go on the meet his gorgeous wife and collegiate swimmer Patti. Patti has taken this journey with Jason and has been his #1 fan!

After a total of four knee surgeries including 2 ACL replacements and a little sympathy pregnancy weight gain he tipped the scales at 242 lbs. Jason knew something needed to give. With diabetes running in his family and a not so good check up with his doctor he knew the time was now.  So at the age of 39 he decided the time was now and went from 242 lbs to 207 lbs.

So how did he do it? Nutritionally he cut out the late night snacking and adding a lot more veggies, chicken and fish to his diet. He also cut out white rice for brown. Fitness was really the key for Jason. Last October he began running again.  Literally limping into it, he would run for three minutes and walk for one minute a total of 30 minutes. The next week I tried four minutes three days a week. Rain or shine, warm or cold he didn’t miss a scheduled workout. Within a month he could run three miles straight so he signed up for his first 5k on Thanksgiving morning. He was given a birthday gift of an entrance into a half marathon to take place on his 40th birthday in May and the fire was lit.  With his wife Patti training for a half iron triathlon, they started to feed off of each other’s success. Summertime is hard with Jason’s work schedule, but he is so dedicated to maintaining his healthy lifestyle that he will go out for a four mile run after working a twelve hour graveyard shift. He says in his own words “I would have never EVER considered that possible in the recent past.”

On his 40th birthday he completed his first half marathon with a goal of 2 hours, this beast completed it in 1:55:54. He is planning on competing in a triathlon in his near future and has a full marathon scheduled for February. With a recent visit to the doc he is no longer at risk for diabetes and his 8yr old has decided he wants to start running with his dad. He has also been able to train alongside his wife which he considers a ‘wonderful blessing’. He would tell someone starting this journey “nothing happens overnight. As long as you keep reminding yourself WHY, you can keep pushing forward.”

Thank you Jason for sharing this amazing and real weight loss journey!

So you think oatmeal is a healthy alternative?

Check out this great article on Oatmeal and how we end up sabotaging our diets with all the extra's we add to make it "taste good". I started to ponder this today as I added walnuts, cranberries, milk and of course a "touch" (at least a tablespoon or more) of brown sugar. Was I defeating the purpose?
